Today was the first day of school and it was only the second time since the age of five that I was not inside a classroom or in a school library. I have a new role as an instructional resource teacher (IRT)-TL and I'm very excited about it. For the next two years I will be supporting fellow teachers' across the school board assisting them with their professional learning goals.
Last week felt a little strange for me too because I didn't have a room to set up, books to display, repair or catalogue. I also didn't have to update the school website or my school library blog. I am no longer in charge of the use and set up of the various computer technologies for a school! Wait, my name is not on a yard duty schedule either! I will however miss my "celebrity status" among the students as I had the pleasure of knowing all 520 by name.
Fortunately, I will not be working alone. I have joined a new team of dedicated, talented and enthusiastic resource teachers and consultants in my new central role. I love to network and build confidence in others and so I think that this new role will be professionally and personally fulfilling. There are so many new things to learn and that was just in the first day!
